Introducing the luxury honeymoon specialists Kuoni
Earlier this year I had the opportunity to attend the John Lewis and Kuoni honeymoon trend report launch event (it was considerably warmer then and we were up in the John Lewis roof garden high above Oxford Street). Now you know us, we love to travel and we not only get to travel for weddings but we love hearing the plans unfold of our couples for their honeymoons.
As part of our honeymoon mini series we thought it would be great to hear from luxury honeymoon experts Kuoni on the upcoming trends and what it’s like planning epic travels for a living. So, without further ado, I will hand you over to Samantha Nolan who is based in the Kuoni boutique in Cardiff.
Tell us a little bit about who Kuoni are
Kuoni has continued to set the pace in luxury worldwide travel in the UK market for over fifty years and is regularly voted one of the best holiday companies in the country by readers of national newspapers and travel industry titles. The company excels in creating tailor-made holidays and honeymoons to more than 90 destinations around the world.
With so many gorgeous destinations for couples to travel to, how would you recommend couples start narrowing down their ideas?
Some clients have no idea of location for their perfect wedding so to narrow down the destination I start by really getting to know the client. Before I switch on my computer I spend time chatting with the couple to find out what’s important to them. I talk about my own beach wedding and get my photos out to show them what they can expect.
What do you see as the biggest travel trends for 2018?
Caribbean is always a popular choice for weddings as you get so much included in the package. We’ve had a lot of interest in Europe for next year also, especially Italy!
How do you work with couples to plan the trip of a lifetime?
The planning stage with our wedding couples is part of the best bit, this is when I get to know what works for them and their likes and dislikes. We arrange an appointment for them to visit the store and have a glass of bubbly waiting for them as we talk through all of their requirements. We have a planning questionnaire that goes into so much detail and then we sit together and I help the couple with any questions they may have.
Having married myself in Antigua, I can really put myself in their shoes, and easily overcome any concerns.
What’s the best part of the job?
I love being one of the wedding experts in the office, I became a little bit obsessed after I got married in Antigua. For me, to marry abroad takes away all the stresses and strains of organising a massive wedding in the UK. We get so many different enquiries from small intimate ceremonies where it is just the bride and groom, to much larger affairs with up to 30 guests travelling.
Some couples want the guaranteed sunshine but still keeping with as close to a traditional wedding as possible, and some couples want the exact opposite. No one couple is the same, and I love the challenges that each one offers.
Until next time,
