Time for inspiration – the minimoon and some of our fave spots

Ahh, the minimoon – the short post-wedding escape that can either be your brilliant romantic getaway or a little treat to fill the gap before your big honeymoon if you’re delaying that for a little while. Minimoons have become really popular recently and it’s easy to see why. With so many fantastic destinations close to home, what’s not to love about the minimoon? Here are some of our favourite ideas for idyllic, memorable and extraordinary special escapes that are just perfect for newlyweds.

Minimoon and the city…

Firstly, let’s talk city breaks and here in the UK and not-so-far afield in Europe, you’re definitely spoiled for choice. If you opt for a minimoon here in the UK, you know that you’re not going to waste much of your precious time travelling. You could ditch the driving altogether by taking the train (treat yourselves to that first-class upgrade!) or hire a cool car if you don’t mind chauffeuring yourselves. Obviously the capital cities will always appeal but don’t forget the coastal, historic or picturesque towns too and there are plenty of those to choose from.

European destinations might mean you spend a bit more travelling but with so many amazing locations just a couple of hours away by plane, everything is within reach. From cool Scandinavian towns like Copenhagen to the beauty of Paris, Seville or Florence, whatever you want, you’ll find in Europe. Leave the UK in the morning and you can be enjoying lunch somewhere completely different just a few hours later. What a treat!

Minimoon in the great outdoors

If the beauty of the great outdoors appeals then again, you don’t need to travel far to get your fix of wild. The Lake District, Snowdonia or the Highlands of Scotland all offer something very special. With accommodation to suit every budget and plenty of active options, these minimoons are rightly popular with outdoorsy couples.

Weddings can be a little bit overwhelming so sometimes, a complete escape is just what’s called for. Glamping is our favourite way to achieve peace whilst still being spoilt rotten! Canopy & Stars offers glamping getaways in the UK and across Europe and when lots of the locations include hot-tubs, open fires, luxurious treats and stunning views, we heartily recommend them. Treehouses, river boats, yurts, shepherd’s huts and converted showmen’s wagons, chapels and even trucks and train carriages provide unique accommodation where you can really just be yourselves.

Memorable experiences…

Your minimoon is also the perfect opportunity to do something that you’ve always wanted to do. Book yourselves into a hotel or snap up a great Air B&B and then indulge in the local area. From dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant to foraging for food on the seashore before cooking up a huge feast, now’s the time to do those things you’ve always promised yourselves you would. Go climbing, white water rafting, painting or motor racing – this is your moment!

So, there are just a few ideas to get you thinking about how brilliant your minimoon could be. As with your wedding, there are no rules as to what you can and can’t do to be individual, embrace your personalities and have a minimoon to remember!

Until next time,
