{Guest post} Autumn and winter wedding trends with Kate Cullen Styling

I’m very excited to have the hugely talented and equally as lovely Kate from Kate Cullen Styling on the blog today, talking about autumn and winter wedding trends for this season, with images by yours truly.

Autumn trends

I’ll let you into a little secret – Autumn weddings are my favourite! Don’t get me wrong I love the pastel hues and long summer days, but secretly I yearn for the rich hues and cosy evenings that signify Autumn – and the light of an Autumn’s day is just perfect for romantic couple photographs in the great outdoors. Even if you’re having a summer wedding, having your engagement shoot in Autumn is such a wonderful opportunity. This season for me is all about nature – from the changing colours of the leaves to the orchard fruits, and I think this year will be no exception for nature-inspired trends and details.

Organic and locally produced food and themes are becoming increasingly popular demands for weddings, and this is a great time of year to really bring this trend to the fore – with fruit and harvest-led centrepieces mixed with statement blooms, to luscious berry coloured bridesmaids’ gowns, statement colour-pop heels, and home-cooked sharing food platters.

Winter weddings are always popular – the natural inclination towards celebration and glamour of this season makes it perfect for glitzy sophisticated weddings. This year sees a continuation in the love all things sequin and sparkling – from table runners to wedding gowns. White, silver, gold and even black are all in vogue – think high-end luxe details such as flower-adorned candelabra, sequin tablecloths, and of course candles – lots and lots of twinkling lights create the perfect atmosphere for a winter wedding. If you want a splash of colour with your metallics you can’t go wrong with a splash of deep red – the ultimate in winter luxury.

Both these seasons are well-suited to the Pantone colour of the year, Marsala. So, if it was a little too heavy for your tastes in Spring and Summer, consider giving it a chance in the latter half of the year. Its natural warmth means it can be teamed with other deep colours for the ultimate in rich, full-bodied colour palettes, or lightened with white and apricot shades for a subtler, softer effect. It is the perfect foil for metallics too, especially gold and copper – both still very popular wedding choices for 2015.
