The Barn at Avington Wedding – Blush and Monochrome Editorial Shoot
Late last summer I packed up my photography kit and headed across the country to The Barn at Avington wedding venue for a styled editorial shoot with a fabulous team. Blush is a hugely popular colour in the wedding industry, but Sarah Shuttle bought a modern twist to it with with her shoot concept by bringing in monochrome tones as a contrast to the softness blush usually brings.
A blank canvas venue such as The Barn at Avington enables couples to be as creative as they want, bringing their own style and personality to their wedding day. And whilst this is a rustic venue (on a working farm after all), this editorial shoot shows how you can bring modern touches to a rustic venue.

Florals were a huge design element within this shoot, and for many weddings the florals can transform a venue, Emma and her team created a a beautiful square arch to sit behind a sweetheart table (where the couple sit, in place of a traditional top table). The beauty of having an arch in a venue like The Barn at Avington, is that it can have multiple uses, starting with it being a ceremony backdrop, frame a sweetheart table and then finally, as we did in this shoot, can frame a cake and dessert table to create a feature (we often see cakes tucked away in the corner, which is a real shame).
To continue with the modern slant on a rustic venue, beautiful design led stationery and monochrome tableware, candles and hurricane lanterns were used. I really loved this colour pallete, the marrying of normally harsher black and a softer more romantic blush came together in such a stylish look.
Our bridal model wore a stunning off the shoulder dress with a statement bow, and a sleek updo and bold makeup look. The statement bow was mirrored in one of the cake designs. And who doesn’t want a stunning cake table, with lots of tasty treats! So sit back, and be inspired by this Barn at Avington wedding editorial, there may be elements you want to bring in to your own wedding design!
And thank you to Hey Wedding Lady for featuring this Barn at Avington wedding shoot in March 2020.
